In conjunction with the Rehoboth Beach Public Library and the Rehoboth Beach Village Improvement Association, the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild (OWQG) will present an exhibit ”Quilts - From Traditional to Modern” which will highlight many types of quilting techniques that include hand and machine quilting, hand and machine applique, thread painting, trapunto, stack and whack, 3-D effects, traditional English paper piecing, machine paper piecing, curved piecing, also embellishments with crystals and beads, and a photo to quilt applique.
The Guild was established in 1997 exclusively for educational and charitable purposes and to keep alive a tradition that has been passed down for generations. During the past 20 years, the Guild has grown from 18 members to 240 members. The Guild meets the first Monday of the month at Conley’s United Methodist Church at 33106 Jolyns Way and all are invited to attend as guests for $5 or to join the Guild for a $20 annual membership fee.

The Guild seeks to develop and expands its members' quilting skills and knowledge through a variety of educational opportunities, such as lectures and classes presented by well-known quilters. Typically, the monthly meeting begins with a demonstration on a quilting technique presented by a Guild member and ends with a Show and Tell where members display their completed quilts. The Guild arranges bus trips to visit quilt shows, quilters’ studios, and museums and strives to foster the sharing of member talents through other activities such as quilting bees, an annual quilt retreat, and a biennial quilt show.

One Guild meeting a year is set aside as a “sew-in” where members gather to work on the items the Guild donates to many local charities and organizations. Throughout the remainder of the year, OWQG members contribute their time and talents in smaller groups or individually to make items for organizations throughout Sussex County which include: Quilts of Valor Foundation, Cancer Support Community of Delaware, La Esperanza Community Center, La Red Health Clinic, Gardenia House, Beebe Health Services, Bay Health Hospital, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Milford Housing Development, Habitat for Humanity, AIDS Delaware, Friends of the Fallen, Sussex County Women’s Shelter, Little Sisters of the Poor, Savannah Snow Drops, Cape Henlopen Senior Center, and Kody's Kids Reading Group. Examples of the Guild’s community service projects will also be on display.
