History of the Spanish Empire

Event Type: History/Genealogy (900)
Age Group(s): Adults
Date: 3/1/2017
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:00 PM
The original explorers of the “New World” were Spanish conquistadors who were searching for a shorter trade route to India and unlimited treasures. From Christopher Columbus who discovered the New World, to Hernán Cortés who conquered the Aztecs to Ferdinand Magellan who circumnavigated the earth, the story of the Spanish Empire is an exciting one.
Our own American history cannot be disconnected from the Spanish Empire. In 1790, two-thirds of the United States was part of the Spanish Empire. Had Napoleon not turned on his Spanish allies, the world map would present a very different picture.
For all those interested in exploring history from the Spanish Empire’s viewpoint verses that of the British Empire, this lecture cannot be missed.
